Cross-Cultural Values and Ethics
|
Our first assignment in MIE 430 was to outline of our personal management philosophy as if we were asked to do so in an interview. I took this assignment literally and addressed my paper towards SpaceX. In this paper I outlined the values I held as the most important, which were vision, communication, and passion. I discussed why exactly I held these values and how I demonstrate them in my leadership style.

Writing down my leadership values allowed me to be more conscious of others leadership styles. The trip to Schliersee and the meeting with Georg both gave me an opportunity to analyze the leadership styles of successful leaders. I found the values that I held show up with both of them, but in ways I had not seen before. My idea of a good leader was engrained in the type of leaders I have encountered in the engineering field. It was enlightening to see how these leaders were able to be effective in leading much different fields whilst using the same values I outlined in my initial paper. I reflected on these experiences in my final paper for PRT 359, where I concluded that it is essential to incorporate some of the European leadership styles such and being easy to approach and have faith in your employees. Taking these qualities into the American workplace will set me apart from my peers and allow me to better connect with co-workers from different backgrounds.

I further reflected on how my leadership values and global mindset have changed in my final reflection for the capstone. I compared my initial assignment where I outlined what it meant to be a leader to my management philosophy and my final reflection in PRT 359. I was able to realize how much my worldview and intercultural skills improved throughout the program and outlined exactly how I plan to implement this when I get back to the United States.
